AW: An entirely reasonable and sensible, albeit obvious, statement that could apply to just about any artist. I.e. that his works question the signification of the objects that they are made out of. The point is reiterated later:
“The [work] acknowledges that the artist’s traditional linguistic elements — image, text, and materials—are only credible in the present when they are anchored within a preexisting social system of communication.”
This is just semiotics, and it applies to all language and cultural products. What the press release seems to be saying is that Cordova’s work signifies something. Great. But what?
